About

The North Mississippi Trail Alliance (NMTA) is a member supported, 501(c)3 non profit organization. The NMTA was founded by a small group of mountain bikers and trail runners from DeSoto County who wanted more trail options in North Mississippi. To reach trails that are of significant length and accessible to non-motorized recreation, residents of North Mississippi must drive an average of 30 to 45 minutes to trails in surrounding counties. DeSoto County lacks any significant natural surface trails dedicated to recreational sport use. Cycling and running are two of the fastest growing recreational sports yet there are few places to enjoy them in one of the fastest growing counties in the U.S. It is our mission to change that. We seek to promote off road cycling and running as complimentary to existing recreational sports and essential to the health and well-being of North Mississippi residents. Trail runners and mountain bikers often utilize the same trail systems but do not work together to advocate for existing trails or the development of new ones. From its conception, the North Mississippi Trail Alliance has sought to give the different user groups one voice. The NMTA is working with DeSoto County Greenways and Parks as well as city planners to help bring a system of connecting trails (both on pavement and off) to Desoto County that supports the Midsouth Regional Greenprint Vision.
